On Monday 20th April, Goodenough College welcomed the US Ambassador to the Court of St James, Matthew W. Barzun to give a Port Talk: "America's Role in the World: Hands On or Hands Off?".

The event was very well attended with the London House Large Common Room filled to standing capacity. The talk included a question and answer session where the Ambassador was quizzed on a wide range of issues related to American foreign policy, its place in the world and the role of diplomats. Mr Barzun was extremely interested in meeting College Members, and took the opportunity to speak with as many as possible on the evening.

The Ambassador was welcomed by the College Director Andrew Ritchie, who noted the College's longstanding links with the US, and presented Mr Barzun with a copy of the College's 80th Anniversary book: "The World in a London Square". Both the Director and Ambassador thanked current Member Michael Matthiesen (studying Philosophy Politics and Economics of Health at UCL), who initiated the Port Talk.
