Richard Barker

Director of Finance and Resources

Reporting to the Director of Goodenough College, Richard is responsible for the strategic financial leadership and management of the College, ensuring the sustainability of the College, its charitable, and commercial operations. He works closely with the Director, the College’s Board, its subcommittees, the wider Executive, and the Board of Goodenough Trading Limited. He is the deputy to the Director of the College, and will support the Director and other senior colleagues in developing and executing the College’s strategic objectives, governance and financial reporting.

Richard also leads on delivering the operations and profitability of The Goodenough Hotel, the College’s Events and Venue Hire, and its Short Stay and Sabbatical businesses, alongside the delivery of the College’s catering and housekeeping operations through substantial facilities management contracts. He leads the Executive on the management of the Colleges investment portfolio, investment properties and its capital financing. Richard is the Company Secretary to the College, and to Goodenough Trading Limited. Richard is currently leading the project to refurbish 43-47 Mecklenburgh Square as quality accommodation for an increased number of College Members.

Richard is a qualified accountant member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy, and a member of the Institute of Physics. He holds a BSc with Honours in Physics from the University of Leeds, a Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Secondary Science from the UCL Institute of Education, and has studied at the London Business School. Richard sits as an Independent Financial Advisor on the Audit & Risk, Finance & Investment, and Remuneration Committees of the Institute of Physics. Richard has held various previous executive positions supporting not for profit and higher education organisations, including at the Royal Society and Imperial College London, alongside other non-executive positions.
