Goodenough College is recruiting a Maintenance Plumber to carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive works to mechanical and plumbing equipment.
The College is an educational charity, providing accommodation to international postgraduate students (we call them Members) and their families in a friendly and collegiate setting on two sites across a picturesque London Square. The College offers a variety of accommodation options from shared single rooms, ensuite rooms and family flats, alongside grand halls, libraries, and common rooms.
Additionally, the College owns and carries out commercial activities through the nearby 4* Goodenough Hotel. The Hotel’s income makes a financial contribution to the charitable activities of the College to encourage and assist the education of our Members.
Main responsibilities include water hygiene management, plant inspections, plumbing work and filter changes. This position will oversee coordinating the requirements of specialist sub-contractors for work. A strong grasps of engineering standards for plant and associated systems is crucial.
The role will necessitate weekend and evening work when required to attend out of hours emergencies, paid through overtime or time off in lieu. The role also includes being part of an on-call rota system, which will be compensated. Excellent organisational skills and a proactive approach are crucial, as is the ability to work independently and use initiative.
Additionally, the position requires physical fitness and agility to carry out tasks within typical plantroom environments and working at heights, utilising platforms and ladders.
The ideal candidate should have a City and Guilds Building Services Engineering or Plumbing Installation or similar equivalent qualification. L8 water hygiene is a must. A good working knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, pumps, heating systems, AHUs, water systems and legionella control is essential. Experience in fixing leaks, radiator valves, risers, changing taps, hot and cold water systems is required.
