Andrew Brown KC
College Trustee (Vice-Chair)
Andrew became a Governor in October 2009 and serves as the Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees and Chair of both the College’s Nominations and Remunerations Committee and The Burn Committee. He was delighted to play a part in the College as he comes from an academic background – both his parents were historians – and was already passionate about The Burn. He first visited as a child when joining his father’s reading parties, renewed the connection when a law undergraduate, and later joined the Burn Committee.
A member of the Scottish Bar, Andrew’s main area of practice has been Criminal Law. He is also a part time Mental Health Tribunal judge. Primarily an appellate lawyer, he appeared regularly in the High Court of Justiciary in Edinburgh, and has been lead counsel in the UK Supreme Court for both Crown and defence. In a six-year stint as a prosecutor he led for the Crown in multiple cases, including ten murder trials, and had responsibility for Scottish Health and Safety prosecutions. Currently he is a senior counsel to the Scottish Child Abuse Inquiry.
