Emeritus Governor Eric Tracey receives rare professional award

The award recognises the exceptional careers of senior members of the Accountancy profession, who are widely respected in their community and in the profession. It is a rare honour with the number of award holders limited to 40 at any one time (out of a current membership of almost 140,000).

In bestowing three new Life Memberships, CA ANZ President Peter Rupp expressed his gratitude for the outstanding contributions to the profession of the new Life Members over many years.

“The prestige of Life Memberships comes from the fact that it is awarded to members who go above and beyond expectations. This is reflected in the fact that there are only 26 members with the award.”

Eric became the first non-British partner in Touche Ross (Deloitte) in 1980 and worked for the company up until 2004, before moving on to become Finance Director at Amey plc and at Wembley plc. He also held independent non-executive directorships at the Chloride Group, NEC Group, Burtons Holdings Ltd and Findel (now Studio Retail Group) Plc and served as Director and then Chairman of Goodenough College.

Eric was instrumental in the establishment of a UK based branch of the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA) in 1980 and the introduction of reciprocal membership arrangements between the New Zealand and English & Wales Chartered Accountants’ Institutes. He was the inaugural Chair of the UK branch, holding that position for nine years.

Eric expressed his surprise and his delight at the Award, especially as he was joining a select group, some of whom had been influential mentors to him at the begining of his career. “To have become a Goodenough College Emeritus Governor and a CAANZ Life Member in the same year made 2020 very special indeed.”
