Founders’ Day 2020
Today, Monday 5 October 2020, Goodenough College opens the academic year with the annual celebration of Founders’ Day – this year delivered online to Governors, Members, Alumni and friends around the world.
On Founders’ Day we bring our community together to celebrate and remember the work of Frederick Craufurd Goodenough and his wife Maeve, and the other notable women, men and organisations who came together to found this remarkable College over 90 years ago.
The vision of the College’s Founding Partners is captured jointly in the College motto Unitas in sapienta: nemo separabit – unity in wisdom: none shall separate.
Rebecca Matthews, Director, comments: “Founders’ Day is particularly special this year as the College is half way through its Commemorative Biennium celebrations. Whilst we haven’t been able to come together to mark the occasion with our usual live ceremony, we would like to encourage members of our community to join us virtually and ‘in spirit’ for our celebrations.”
The Founders’ Day programme begins at 12.00pm BST with the Introduction to Founders’ Day, delivered by Rebecca Matthews, followed by The Proclamation of Fellows In Recent Times Elected, given by Graham Ward CBE, President of the College.
Watch the video or download the list of new Fellows from 12.00pm BST.
The day will conclude at 7.00pm BST with the Founders’ Day Oration, delivered by Graham Ward CBE, on “The Challenge of Coherence.”
A video of the speech will be available on the website at 7.00pm BST.
We regret that a number of our Alumni, Governors and staff have sadly departed our global community in the last year. Please see our In Memoriam list.
