Goodenough College welcomes Graham Ward CBE as new President

Graham Ward had been a Governor of Goodenough College since 2004, in addition to being an Ex-Officio Governor in 2000-01. Until 15 October 2019, he was also Vice Chair of the Board and Chair of the Audit Committee.

He has broad international experience, having worked in approximately 70 countries in various senior-level roles including: Chairman of the World Utilities Group of PricewaterhouseCoopers, President of the International Federation of Accountants, Vice Chair and Senior Independent Director of the World Energy Council, Vice Chair of the UK-India Business Council and many more positions with global reach. He has also held several senior positions based in the UK. He was appointed CBE in the 2004 Birthday Honours, for services to exports.

On his appointment Graham said:

“It is a great and humbling honour to be asked to take on the role of President following in the footsteps of illustrious predecessors, especially René. I have always been an internationalist by nature, with a core belief that people and nations are stronger together. There is real value in giving people from different backgrounds a place where they can come together, so I was delighted to accept the opportunity to serve the College through this leading role in its work.”

Naturally this remarkable experience will be of great benefit to our community: Members, staff and all those who work with us. We are thrilled to have him on board.”

Graham has an international family background. His father was born in Australia and his mother was born and raised in what is now East Malaysia. His wife Ann was raised in Ethiopia.

When he’s not working, Graham’s interests include boxing and rugby having participated in earlier student days at Oxford University and Dulwich College. A passionate opera fan, he is a member of and regular visitor to Glyndebourne with his wife. They also enjoy classical ballet together and attend the Covent Garden Opera House frequently.

His whole family are enthusiasts of The Burn, having visited for many years on various occasions including Christmas.
