The Burn is a 20-bedroomed Mansion House, Listed Grade B belonging to Goodenough College. The estate consists of a beautiful woodland oasis, with the spectacular North Esk river running through a natural landscape. Although it operates mainly as an academic retreat for mostly international and Scottish university post-graduates, it is also hired out as a unique venue for private, family celebrations and offered as holiday accommodation.
The Burn is now seeking an experienced and flexible Catering Manager to oversee all catering provision, where guests may appreciate traditional home cooking or more refined ‘Table d’hôte’ dining experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of food preparation and service, including menu planning, food ordering, and staff supervision.
- Responsible for kitchen budgets to ensure cost-effectiveness.
- Maintain the highest standards of food hygiene and safety.
- Source the best ingredients, working with the Property and Estate Manager to prioritise the use of homegrown vegetables, fruits and herbs in our menus.
- Work closely with clients to understand their dietary needs and preferences.
- Supervise and train kitchen staff.
- Ensure the smooth running of all catering operations, from breakfast to formal dinners.
- Contribute to the overall guest experience by providing excellent customer service.
Ideal candidate should have:
- A recognised professional qualification in food preparation/catering.
- At least Intermediate or Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate holder.
- At least 7 years’ experience in the practical preparation of high quality dishes for around 50 people at a sitting, using fresh, seasonal ingredients, and cooked to the highest standards, recognising the need to accommodate a variety of dietary requirements.
- Ability to create menu items to a tight time scale, to a budget and to the highest standards.
- Strong leadership and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication skills and confident in liaising with guests from all backgrounds and cultures.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Salary offered is £35,000 per annum, 25 days annual leave with additional days over Christmas ((which may be taken then or another time as agreed), Medicash and pension contributions.
