The School of Advanced Study, a postgraduate institution of the University of London, is the UK’s national centre for the promotion and facilitation of research in the humanities and social sciences.

Established in 1994, the School of Advanced Study unites nine research institutes at the University of London. It is a non-profit higher-education institution, which enrols up to 500 students. Being a small specialist postgraduate research institution, the school offers a friendly community to students around the world – about a third of the School’s student population is international.

SAS has no student halls of residence of its own. Therefore, many of those studying at SAS choose to live at Goodenough College, which is just over 1km away.

Goodenough College provides a friendly “home from home” for postgraduate students from all around the world. Living at Goodenough gives postgraduates a cost-effective central London base, opportunities to take part in a huge range of social, and intellectual events and the chance to make friends and contacts from around the world.

Goodenough is an educational charity dedicated to bringing together some of the world’s brightest minds in one community. To achieve that goal it offers a number of Scholarships to help talented students from less privileged backgrounds to afford to live at the College. Students who have lived at Goodenough see themselves as part of a special community, which is why the College has such a thriving international Alumni community.
