Goodenough Members march in historic Lady Mayor’s Show
Goodenough College has a longstanding tradition of participating in the Lord Mayor’s Show. This year, for the first time in over 800 years, the event became the Lady Mayor’s Show.
On Saturday 8 November, 40 Goodenough Members proudly marched in the Lady Mayor’s Show to celebrate a Goodenough College Fellow, Dame Susan Langley DBE, becoming the 697th Lord Mayor of London, and the first ever ‘Lady Mayor of London’.
The event was a spectacular, televised procession through the streets of the City of London, featuring military and civilian bands, various esteemed organisations, dozens of horses and carriages, and the magnificent gold State Coach – a highlight of the show since 1757.

Leading the College’s group were two Members dressed as the College’s Founders, Maeve and Frederick Goodenough. They were followed by Members in academic gowns performing a choreographed umbrella routine in one of the College’s colours, adding a vibrant and memorable touch to the grand occasion.

Described as “the oldest, longest, least rehearsed and best loved civic procession in the world”, the Lord Mayor’s Show is a unique blend of medieval pageantry and modern celebration, showcasing London’s independence, diversity, and civic pride.

This year’s show marked a historic milestone – Dame Susan Langley DBE is only the third woman to hold the post in over eight centuries, and the first ever to be titled the Lady Mayor of London.

It was a truly momentous occasion for Goodenough College and its Members, a celebration that will be remembered fondly for years to come.
