“Coming from a country where many professions aren’t open to women, I’ve found it inspiring to meet so many women in leadership positions – including Goodenough College’s Director.”

I’ve recently completed an MA in Education, Gender and International Development at UCL. In my home country – Uganda, certain professions are traditionally not considered appropriate for women, so it was incredibly inspiring to meet so many women in leadership positions at Goodenough College – including the College’s Director.
During my time at Goodenough, I regularly exchanged ideas and brainstormed together with fellow Members studying similar courses at different universities, which added a whole new dimension to my studies. Port Talks at the College have also broadened my perspective on a wide range of topics and enriched my academic journey.
Being a Goodenough Member has helped me expand my professional network in ways I never expected. For example, I invited the Director of Windle Trust Scholarship as my guest to a Faculty Dinner at the College, and our conversation that evening helped shape my dissertation. And also I had the opportunity to attend a networking event for Members at Mansion House, where I met the High Commissioner of Uganda – another invaluable connection made possible through Goodenough.
Before joining the College, I was quite shy when interacting with others. Living at Goodenough and engaging with Members from so many different backgrounds helped me to gain confidence and to come out of my shell.
