Welcome period at Goodenough College

Arriving in a city as big as London for the first time can be overwhelming, so the College does everything it can to make sure new Members make connections, settle in and feel at home as soon as possible.

Our full programme of events takes place in the last two weeks of September each year. The programme includes meeting the Dean and Registrar through organised orientation sessions and tours along with multiple opportunities to meet other Members through ‘meet to eat’ events, Welcome Drinks, a boat party on the Thames, and tours of London institutions, such as the Royal Society, The Courtauld Institute of Art and the Houses of Parliament.

New Members also have the opportunity to visit the Clubs and Societies Fair to find out more about some of the Member-led activities going on in College and to sign up to take part.

The Welcome period formally concludes with Founders’ Day, a College tradition dating back to the 1930s in which College Members and Fellows gather to remember and celebrate the vision and generosity of the College’s Founders and Benefactors .
